How to register

Before you register, please read this important IELTS Information.

We recommend you register for an IELTS test at least 5 weeks in advance. Places are limited and are on a first-come-first-served basis.

Online Registration

Book your IELTS test online.

Online registration is easy. Just follow these five steps:

Step 1: Select the test version, the month and the location. You will then be able to choose from paper-based or computer-delivered.

Choose the date and start time (AM or PM) and your preferred speaking test date and time.

Step 2: You will then need to create an account and enter your personal details. If you are under 18 years of age your parent or guardian must open an account in their name and book the test for you.

Step 3: As part of the booking you will need to provide a copy of your ID document; you can use a passport, European ID card or Biometric Residence Permit. You can upload this or send it to us by e-mail: [email protected]

Step 4: Make your payment for the test fee by selecting the button below:

2020 fee is £175.00

Pay Online 2020

Or telephone 01423 531969 to pay with a credit or debit card during office hours (Monday to Friday, 08.45 to 16.45).

Step 5: When you have uploaded your ID document and made your payment you will receive an email from the British Council confirming your booking.

Approximately 7 days before the test date, the test centre will send you an email with the timetable for the test and useful information for the day.

Please check your email inbox and junk mail inbox regularly. You may also wish to list our email address [email protected] as ‘not junk mail' or ‘safe' in your email provider's settings.

Bookings must be completed no later than 2 days after you register and no later than 7 days before your IELTS test.

Bookings are not complete until you have uploaded your ID document and made your payment.

Do you have any special requirements due to ill health / medical condition?

If you answer ‘yes' to this question on the online application, you must provide a doctor's letter or professional assessment, which should be no more than two years old. The evidence can be emailed to us at [email protected] or uploaded on the Test Taker Portal together with your ID document.

Special requirements are only available for paper-based IELTS.

IELTS is not recommended for under 16's.
